FORT BEND COUNTY (Covering Fort Bend News) – A Fort Bend County Deputy Sheriff was shot in the leg early this morning while responding to a 911 disturbance call in the Orchard Lake Estates subdivision off Highway 99 near West Airport Boulevard and FM 1464. The active incident is still ongoing on Lakeridge Canyon Drive. It started around 5 a.m.
The deputy was taken to Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital to be treated for his non-life-threatening injuries.
Sheriff Troy Nehls is at the scene. During a TV interview, he hoped to be speaking directly to the gunman who is believed to be holding a woman and child hostage.
“The deputy (who was shot) is going to be ok. This can end peacefully,” Nehls said. “Just walk out now with your hands up.”
After the deputy was shot, more deputies arrived on the scene and attempted to gain access to the house. More gunshots were fired from inside the house and law enforcement retreated.
Right now there are hostage negotiators and a SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) team in place. When this story was posted at 7:45 a.m. there had been no contact from the gunman.
Covering Fort Bend will update this story as more information is made available.
