Community Invited to FBISD’s first Kodály Concert and Demonstration

FORT BEND ISD (Covering Fort Bend News) – Fort Bend ISD is inviting the community to a free concert and demonstration on Thursday, June 14, from 4-5 p.m. in Dulles Middle School’s cafeteria, 500 Dulles Avenue in Sugar Land. Sponsored by FBISD’s Fine Arts Department and JW Pepper, the event will feature 24 FBISD elementary music educators, who have completed Level I of the Kodály method of music instruction. The Kodály method is being introduced in FBISD elementary schools to ensure that students receive high-quality music training at a young age.

Retired Music Educator/Administrator Phyllis King, Kempner High School Head Choir Director Henry Windham, III and Patterson Elementary Music Teacher/Event Coordinator Julie Boettiger led the group in an intensive, two-week training. Completion of the training leads to Kodály Level I Certification endorsed by the Organization of American Kodály Educators. King and Windham will be concert conductors, accompanied by Baines Middle School Choir Director Karen Clark.
