Sugar Land Middle School ARMS Club Students Put Etiquette Skills to the Test During End-of-year Dinner

FORT BEND ISD (Covering Fort Bend News) –Sugar Land Middle School’s ARMS (Accepting Responsible Male Strengths) Club is all about teaching students leadership and character skills that they can use in their life. The after-school program is geared for adolescent males age 11 and above, and was formed at SLMS during the 1998-99 school year after male students said they wanted a club similar to the existing Girls Club.

This past January, the club took an etiquette class presented by Dorris Irving of Image Development Place. Irving’s company offers career and image development training services to individuals and business professionals, and character education training to youth and young adults. During their lesson, students learned all about a dinner’s place setting for informal and formal dining, and how to properly handle flatware.

As part of a test and reward, club sponsor Rod Martin treated the students to a formal end-of-year dinner at Antonia’s Italian Restaurant in Sugar Land.  The students not only put their etiquette skills to the test, but they got to enjoy a three-course meal.
