Go Fund Me Account Raising Money for Hightower Student Shot in Robbery

FORT BEND COUNTY (Covering Fort Bend News) -A Go Fund Me account has been set up to help the family of a Hightower High School student who was shot in a robbery while leaving a friend’s house.

In early January, Robert Lewis, Jr., 17, was leaving his friend’s home in Fresno when he was shot in the back, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. According to the Go Fund Me page, Lewis Jr. was texting his mother to let her know he was on his way home when the robber opened the back door of his car, demanded money, then shot him in the back.

“The bullet hit his stomach, kidney, lungs, spine, and other organs and now, hopefully temporarily, he’s paralyzed,” it says on the fundraiser’s webpage. “He was doing the right thing and paying a life-threatening price.”

As of 2 p.m. Feb. 9, the effort has raised more than $5,000 of the $20,000 goal to help his family pay for his medical bills and possible home renovations to accommodate a wheelchair.
