One Dead Following Greatwood Shooting – UPDATE

FORT BEND COUNTY (Covering Fort Bend) –  The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an early morning double shooting in the Greatwood subdivision. It happened at a home in the 7400 block of  Stone Arbor Drive near Greatwood Parkway at Riverbrook Drive.

A 9-1-1 call came from a person who reported that shots had been fired. Fort Bend County Sheriff’s dispatchers received the call at 3 a.m. Sunday morning.

“Responding units found several juveniles running from the scene,” said Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls who was on the scene. Nehls said the people who were at the scene ranged in age from late teens to early twenties.”

Several kids stayed behind and we are talking to them,” Nehls said.

When deputies entered the home they found two people who were shot.

“There is a deceased male inside and another male that suffered from gunshot wounds,” Nehls said.  The injured man was taken by medical flight to a Houston hospital.

“Two individuals were involved in a verbal argument at a house party,” said a statement that was released by the sheriff’s office early Sunday night.

“The argument soon turned violent when both individuals produced handguns and began firing, resulting in both sustaining gunshot wounds,” the statement said.

Demonte Ziegler, 18, of Houston, died as a result of his wounds. Ira Donahue, 21, of Houston, received serious injuries and was transported via Life Flight to the Houston Medical Center. There is no update on his condition at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
